Furniture delivery guide: Making sure your Chesterfield sofa feels right at home

After spending so much time and effort finding the perfect Chesterfield sofa to suit your home décor, it’s only natural to get excited when the prospect of delivery day comes around. At the same time, it’s also understandable if you have a few niggling questions, such as ‘do I need to arrange extra help for moving the sofa?’, ‘will it fit through my door?’, and ‘how long will it take for my sofa to arrive?’.

Here at Timeless Chesterfields, we understand these concerns and always aim to give you peace of mind before you finalise your purchase with us. We’ve created this guide to furniture delivery to make sure that your new Chesterfield sofa feels right at home. Read on to find out more.

Measure up before making a final decision

Before placing your final order, it’s best to be sure your new furniture will be able to fit snugly into your new home. Your calculations will have to take into account the size of your new sofa in comparison to the measurements of the location you wish to place it. You will also need to take into account the dimensions of any doorways or obstacles that it will need to pass through on its way there.

Get your sofa measurements

First of all, you should jot down the dimensions of your new Chesterfield sofa, which can be found in the dimensions section of the product page. You will need to write down the width (arm to arm), height (floor to top of back), and depth (front to back) to work out whether it will fit.

Measure up your home

You will need to ensure there is enough room in the space you intend to make your sofa’s new home. Take into account the dimensions you have written down and get your tape measure out. A great way of visualising the finished product is to use masking tape or pieces of paper to mark where the piece will sit in your room.

It’s always worth keeping in mind that our sofas can be made to measure before placing your final order. This means we can tailor a suite to fit your home’s space requirements, giving you a lot of flexibility — visit our bespoke sofas page to find out more about this service.

Next, you will have to make sure that your sofa can safely make its way through your home to its new location. Firstly, check your front door: open it as wide as it will go and measure from across the doorframe. If the measurement you get is more than the height of your new furniture, you’re good to go.

If the sofa doesn’t fit this way, we can always carry it through in an upright position, something our delivery team will be more than happy to do. To check whether this is possible, measure the internal height of your doorframe, and as long as it is as larger than the width of your sofa it will fit.

You should also pay attention to any other doors or architectural features along the route that you want to take into your home — be sure to measure the space around these too.

Remember: Most of our sofas (those with wooden bun feet or castors) have removeable feet that, when taken off, can lower the sofa height by 5cm (2 inches). Models with different styles of leg can have different measurements — get in touch to ask and we’ll be able to advise how far they will be lowered.

If we believe it is necessary, we can visit your home to make sure your chosen piece of furniture will fit before we begin to craft it. Again, get in touch and we can explore whether this is possible.

Planning your delivery

Once you are sure that your furniture will fit nicely into your home, you can begin to look forward to delivery day and enjoying the look and feel of your brand-new Chesterfield.

How long will it take for my furniture to be delivered?

We aim to get your furniture delivered to your home as quickly and conveniently as possible. As our sofas are all individually handmade to different specifications, they can take a little longer to get just right. Because of this, our lead time can vary depending on the time of the year. We are happy to advise on the most up to date lead time available for your sofa — just get in touch and our team can assist.

We always try our utmost to cater for your needs. If you have a certain timeframe in mind or need us to deliver in special circumstances, such as if you are just moving in, we will do our best to accommodate you when the time comes to finalise your delivery date. Simply let us know, and we’ll be happy to chat through your options.

Do I need to do anything before delivery day?

On delivery day, please make sure that there is a clear path for our team to access your home and get your furniture to where it needs to be. This little bit of effort will help us to move your Chesterfield safely, with no risk of damage to your new piece or your property. It would also be appreciated if you could let us know beforehand of any difficulties that could affect delivery, for example, if you live on busy street with little to no parking, or if your flat is several floors up from ground level.
